A man dressed in what appeared to be a hazardous-materials suit attempted to break in to a northeast Minneapolis house where there was an apparent marijuana-growing operation, but his effort Thursday morning was foiled by the homeowners, police said.
Officers were called to a house in the 1100 block of NE. 5th Street around 9:30 a.m. The intruder ran away, but was arrested nearby, said Sgt. Jesse Garcia.
At first, police thought the house contained a meth lab because a "noxious odor" emanated from it, but once inside police discovered the marijuana operation, Garcia said.
Two people, who were in the house when the intruder came calling, were taken in for questioning, Garcia said.

Law enforcement officers seized more than 200 marijuana plants Tuesday from a West Duluth home and arrested three people in connection with the operation.

The arrests were the latest in a string of recent marijuana busts as law enforcement agencies respond to an increase in homegrown pot operations.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, officers executed a search warrant about 6 p.m. Tuesday at 226 S. 56th Ave. W. after receiving a tip of a marijuana-growing operation. Officers found several growing rooms equipped with shelves and grow lights and more than 200 plants in various stages of growth, including some already harvested and curing.
“They had a pretty good, pretty intricate operation there, which is still under investigation,” St. Louis County Sheriff’s Investigator Brent Donahue said.
The plants have an estimated street value of more than $80,000. Investigators also found evidence of methamphetamine use.

Jeff Swensen did not tie down his legs late Tuesday night before climbing in bed to watch his favorite television shows.
A car accident when he was 16 paralyzed him from the nipples down, which makes his legs “flop uncontrollably.” He used to worry about falling asleep in front of the screen without properly restraining them. For the past several years, however, the 27-year-old Helena man hasn’t worried as much because a regimen of smoking medical marijuana, or cannabis, prevents the spasms, reduces chronic pain in his arms and helps him sleep.
