Medical marijuana defense falls flat
By Joseph Law, Standard Journal

The Fremont County prosecutor says a drug bust in Island Park illustrates that claiming a medical use of marijuana with a certificate from another state won't help you in Idaho.

Aurora M. Hathor-Rainmenti, 35 , of Garberville, Calif., was arrested Friday after she was stopped for speeding near Mack's Inn. Fremont County deputies found a baggy containing marijuana in her car with the help of a drug dog.

Hathor-Rainmenti was charged with one count of possession of marijuana and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.

Fremont County Prosecutor Joette Lookabaugh said Hathor-Rainmenti said she had a certificate from the state of California allowing for medical use of marijuana.

"We want the public to know that medical marijuana certificates, even if they're from surrounding states, are not honored in Idaho," Lookabaugh said.

Huge Pot Bust in TH
By Jon Swaner, mywabashvalley.com

A pair of officers and their K-9 partners makes a huge bust on the interstate.

Officers Brent Long and Brian Worley busted a van hauling a trailer.

It contained band equipment and 217 pounds of marijuana.

That's valued at $250,000.

The officers were on a drug interdiction operation on the interstate on Sunday.

That's when Long noticed the van's driver weaving back and forth in his lane.

When he started questioning the driver, that's when he knew something wasn't right.

"I just told him I wanted to run my K-9 partner around his vehicle,” said Officer Long. “We got an indication on the trailer with my K-9 partner, Shadow. At that point, I turned around to see the guy almost fall on his face from nervousness."

Police arrested the driver, Ramon Platt of San Diego, California.

He's held on $50,000 bond.
