Spring Valley family says police raided the wrong house
By Jane Lerner, LoHud.com

SPRING VALLEY — David McKay and his wife, 13-year-old daughter, brother-in-law and two dogs were sleeping early Thursday morning when they heard banging on their front door.

Thinking a neighbor needed help, McKay and his wife, Jamie, ran down the stairs of their townhouse at 36 Sharon Drive and opened the door.

No one in the family was prepared for what they said happened next.

McKay said his family was terrorized by police who were slow to realize they were targeting the wrong house.

Authorities admit that they were at the McKays' home as part of a series of drug raids in Spring Valley, Mount Vernon, the Bronx, northern New Jersey, the Albany area and Pennsylvania. But they dispute the family's account, insisting they were briefly in the McKays' home looking for information.

The family said that at least eight police officers — their weapons drawn — barged into the house and pointed guns at the family and threaten ed to shoot their dogs.

"Their guns were drawn. They were screaming, 'Where's Michael? Where's Michael?' " McKay recounted hours later. "I'm trying to tell them there's no one named Michael here."

McKay said he tried to explain that his daughter was sleeping in an upstairs bedroom, but the officers ran up the stairs anyway.

He said they pulled the eighth-grader out of her bed at gunpoint and dragged her down the stairs.

"I was so scared I thought I was going to have a heart attack," Destinee McKay, a middle school student, said.

Williams says she had not spoken to the man in some time and he did not know that she's a law officer.

Williams let police know that she agreed to meet the man at a park.

Early police and Texas troopers were on hand to detain the San Angelo man, who faces a marijuana possession charge.

Early is 120 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

It was child that lives in his home that set investigators on the trail of Harry James Halsley. Now, the 52-year-old who lives on Wagon Trail Road is facing several charges.

Investigators say it all started when a student related to Halsley brought some pot to Amherst County High School. When deputies started investigating, they say they came across 27 marijuana plants and more than three pounds of dried marijuana at his home.

busted cannabisLieutenant Greg Turner says there's no way this is just for personal use. He said it is likely for distribution. He says this type of incident doesn't happen very often and that the worst part about it is when children get involved.

"When they have people in the community doing things like this that are illegal and attract buyers and sellers. Anybody buying drugs usually doesn't have money to buy them; they'll steal things and fence things," he said.

Halsley is being held without bond.

As for the student, school officials say anytime a student is found in possession of drugs, they're recommended for longtime expulsion.
